Isn’t social media supposed to be inclusive? Aren’t we all – apparently – moving toward a new ‘social’ society, facilitated by social media? A society where everyone has a voice and where the relationships are between people – incorporating a smattering of egalitatarianism – and where we’re all one big world community?
Isn’t it, then, ironic that the gadget des nos jours is called an iPhone? And, let’s face it, that’s what it’s all about. i. Might as well call it a mePhone. In fact that’s what social media is about, at its root. Me. The cult of personality.
As someone cleverer than me put it – ‘a self-invasion of one’s own privacy.’
